Practical checklist
What this article covers
A project-specific package checklist linking drawings, finishes, schedules and decisions; no claim of full construction readiness.
An interior documentation handoff should tell the receiving team what to produce, which references govern that task and which decisions remain open. Sending every project file does not answer those questions.
Use this proposed checklist for production support such as drawing updates, schedule coordination or preparing review outputs. It is not a fabrication release or a declaration that a space is safe to build.
Define the task before choosing the files
Identify the rooms or zones, drawing types, schedule scope, required formats and review owner. Separate established direction from options still under discussion.
Designerflow's interior handoff guidance emphasizes passing current project context as well as files. Our worksheet applies that idea to a bounded external documentation task, not to every stage of its product workflow.
Assemble a task-focused handoff register
| Package component | What the recipient needs | Question to resolve |
|---|---|---|
| Drawing baseline | Named current plan, elevation and detail revisions | Which references apply to this task? |
| Selected direction | Recorded choices and relevant visual references | What remains an option? |
| Schedules | Current item and finish records with identifiers | Which fields need updating? |
| Production rules | Templates, units, naming and output examples | What may the external team change? |
| Open decisions | Question, affected task and decision owner | Which work depends on an answer? |
| Review return | Expected files and checking arrangement | Who reviews the submitted result? |
Do not interpret a selected product as an instruction to order it. Specsources' FF&E schedule guidance separates selection information, approval status and procurement status. Identify the relevant state for your assignment rather than using an unexplained “approved” label.
Hypothetical example: an option remains in the presentation
In this fictional reception update, the recorded direction selects a light timber finish, but an older presentation still shows a dark alternative. The handoff identifies the current selection and marks the older visual as superseded for this task.
The external drafter is instructed to update the identified documentation, not choose a substitute product or release an order. If the selected finish lacks a required code, the drafter records the missing information and asks the named interior lead.
After submission, the reviewer compares the returned drawings and schedule against the recorded direction. The checklist's completion does not independently authorize fabrication.
Use specialist checks where the package needs them
The FF&E handover checklist follows item identity and selection state. The finish-schedule checklist compares surface codes with their locations.
Use the interior-elevation review checklist for view-specific comments. For a repeated retail concept, the rollout deviation log distinguishes site-specific decisions from the shared baseline.
If a rendering is part of the direction, the visualization handoff checklist helps identify its brief and review version. A visually persuasive image should not silently override a recorded documentation decision.
Return the state of the work, not just new files
Ask for completed outputs, unresolved questions and a record of deviations from the instruction. Keep prior revisions available and identify what changed in the returned package.
Nest's interior production-support guide describes the wider arrangement. Discuss interior design support with the specific production task and retained design-review decisions clear from the start.
